Jinqiao Subcenter
a masterplan for shanghai's jinqiao golden bridge subcenter — turning a thirty-year manufacturing base into a crown of towers around a central park, with an innovation testbed at its core.
concept
the golden bridge subcenter sits on the golden middle ring in pudong, between zhangjiang and wujiaochang. after thirty years as one of shanghai's deepest manufacturing bases, jinqiao is pivoting toward high-end intelligent manufacturing and r&d. the masterplan asks what a "production + well-living" subcenter looks like when the factory and the city finally share an address.
context
today the district reads as a hard split — sealed-off residential superblocks on one side, scattered industrial sheds on the other, with little in between. the plan stitches the seam by threading a central park through it and lining the green with a mixed program, then ties the site back to wujiaochang, zhangjiang, and the central activity zone through intensive transit.
strategy
program is organized as an ecosystem rather than a zoning map. the site anchors the golden ring — shanghai's densest, most mixed-use belt — drawing on neighboring clusters in smart manufacturing, healthcare r&d, and digital innovation. ringing a central park, towers from 80 to 330 m build a "crown" skyline that gives the subcenter a single legible silhouette.
arrival
arrival is layered. metro stations ring the edges, a central-park loop carries visitors across the green, and a continuous innovation loop threads the testbed — linking the park promenade, gateway plaza, framing plaza, and feature alleys into one walk.
innovation testbed
at the heart, a modular building system absorbs every tenant scale — from 450 sqm SME modules to a 42,000 sqm core-enterprise block — stitched together by the elevated innovation loop over a shared landscape. fablab, conference, exhibition, and gazelle firms sit on one continuous path.
